Alpha coffee table - THibault EMpain
The ALPHA coffee table is made up of 3 entities that form a whole. Two cylinders and a support in brushed bronzed brass, a second support in lacquered wood, and finally the smoked oak veneer which is cut into “quarters”, revealing the “mesh” of the wood. I’ve often seen the quartered veneer that gives this beautiful “mesh” phenomenon on oak and it reminded me of an animal skin. This mesh has a very animal and wild effect. I wanted to use it to give the illusion of leather stretched over the lacquered wood support. The vertically brushed bronzed brass responds in visual opposition to the smoked oak mesh. The linear softness contrasts with the wildness of the wood mesh.
