Mandala - Louise Van Reeth

The artist sets about recomposing several circles from pieces of marble. The pieces are sorted and then arranged in a circular fashion, starting from the outside and working inwards.
For the artist, it’s a way of creating harmony and unity from disparate elements that are all different.
Take a fresh look at an object that usually goes unnoticed.

Slow, meticulous work, echoing the gestures of artisan practices, exalts the qualities of the mineral and the organic.
They’re raw, all just assembled, yet their appearance is the result of a long history.
These sets alone make up a world.
A pursuit of balance, a quest to capture the fleeting, suspended moment.

Through this desire to “make exist” these “materialological” materials together, the artist addresses the notion of the transitory nature of all things.
